In December 1991, Wintrust’s founders opened a storefront community bank in Lake Forest, Illinois.
We knew that customers needed a bank that knew their names, understood their needs, and then went the extra mile for them. More than three decades later, we have grown from a retail bank in one community to a multi-faceted financial services organization with deep roots in communities throughout Chicagoland, Wisconsin, Michigan, and even nationwide.
Today we operate 16 community bank charters, with over 200 branch locations and bank and non-bank business units in more than 30 states, provinces, and territories across the U.S. and Canada. Our unique business model is a competitive strength and value driver, powered by our talented colleagues who make the difference by putting our customers first and achieving demonstrably better results.
We were created to be the alternative to our big bank competitors. No matter which of our banks, companies, or divisions you engage with, our customers and clients come first. We offer the resources and tools of a large company with the personal attention and customer focus you expect from a local, family-owned establishment.
Accountability
We own our actions, learn from mistakes, and commit to doing right by our customers and colleagues, promoting both personal and career growth.
Teamwork
We believe in fostering a culture of inclusion, collaboration, and unwavering support for one another. We win together, recognizing that our shared accomplishments are a testament to the power of unity and teamwork.
Integrity
Doing what is right is not just a choice; it is core to who we are, shaping our decisions and actions in everything we do.
Balance work and life
Finding the right balance between your personal life and your career is important. We're here to support you in achieving that balance in your own way.

“I have purple hair and have had it since I was 17 years old. I have been hired into companies where months into the role, I was told to change my hair to a “more natural color.” I have been told that I was too loud or too jolly when working for another company. At Wintrust, my hair is never an issue, my projected voice is never an issue, and how happy I am is never an issue! I am allowed to embrace who I am and what makes me my own unique self.”

“My grandfather’s name was also Andrew G. Bradt. This nameplate was on his door back when he was a hot-shot banker in Chicago many years ago. My father had passed it down to me. Years later as a banker with Wintrust/Town Bank, I decided to display the metal nameplate at my teller station. Over the years, I have shared that story of my nameplate with my clients. One client asked to take the nameplate home to spiff it up by adding a beautiful wood backstop with a stand display, and even polished and plated it. I look at it now and think of its evolution over the 100+ years since it was on my grandfather’s door, and I couldn’t be prouder to have it. And it’s all thanks to my clients!”
Andrew B., Relationship Banker, Town Bank, N.A.
“Wintrust is so involved in the community! I've experienced many parades where I was a driver with my Fiat convertible. It’s a special feeling seeing all the people wave and recognize Wintrust. Also, giving out dog bones to dogs and bottled water on hot days shows Wintrust cares!“
Barbara K., Assistant Branch Manager, Lake Forest Bank & Trust Company, N.A.
